I Thought of You Kindle Edition
I wanted to conquer the world.
She wanted to gaze at the stars.
It’s been twelve years since I last saw Scottie Rucker. A grim prognosis has upended my life, and no amount of my hard-earned money can fix it. So, after leaving a note on the nightstand, I search for my first love—I search for life.
When I find her in Austin, working at a quaint general store and living in an RV behind it, those twelve years vanish. She’s exactly how I remember her.
Scottie thinks our reunion is a small-world coincidence, and I’m not ready to tell her the truth. After we rekindle our friendship, she convinces me to work part-time at the store while she pursues her budding relationship with Koen, a welder and the grandson of a customer.
Scottie’s ability to live in the moment is exactly what I need. But how do I convince her new boyfriend that I’m not his competition? And what happens if my heart changes its mind?

We have three man characters, and while this may seem like a love triangle, it's not exactly. Scottie and Price shared an amazing summer twelve years ago, and when Price needs a motivation to live he leaves everything behind to find Scottie again. Her innate goodness and unique outlook are exactly the light he needs in his life right now.
Shortly after Price comes back into Scottie's life she meets Koen and they share an instant attraction that could easily grow into more. This is where things get really interesting, and I hung on every word as the story unfolded.
Part of the magic of this is the order in which events are revealed, in the pacing and scene changes, and JEA has a masterful way of telling a story. She grabbed my attention from the very first and I devoured this in one sitting. Captivating, charming, heartbreaking and uplifting, this is easily one of my top all-time reads and I guarantee it's one you won’t easily forget.
It’s been so long since I’ve been excited and nervous about book. So when I saw the teasers for this book, I knew it was going to be an emotional rollercoaster. But one thing is for sure…if Jewel writes it, I’m going to read it! Honestly I tend to stay away from tearjerkers. But I’ll always make an exception especially when it’s written by a favorite author. There’s just something about Jewel’s storytelling that will draws you in and never lets go. I Thought of You was such a unique and compelling story that will tear your heart out and then piece back together again. This book was unlike anything that I’ve read from Jewel before. But it had all the things that I love about books. It was a deeply emotional story filled with angst, heartbreak, healing, friendship and love. This story really caught me by surprise and I loved every bit of this story. Trust me when I say that once you pick up this book, you won’t want to put it down. One of the best books of 2024! So if there’s any book that should be on your radar, it should be this book.

Jewel likes to lull the reader into a sense of complacency with her witty dialogue and banter that is unrivaled as entertainment and addicting, always wanting more of these character interactions. Yet there are always hidden surprises in the proverbial plot sleeve. It wasn't hard to figure out Price's motive for re-entering Scottie's life, but I still had him misjudged. What happens from this point is not going to be spoiled, but suffice to say there's a hard emotional meteorite thrown in that cues all the feels and heartbreak and a sense of despondency regarding the possibility of the the story not ending the way the reader is rooting for.
Price is a bit of a dichotomy when it comes to sacrifice and self-preservation. He manages to do both. As for Scottie, she stays true to herself and I loved her big and unselfish heart. I know the author wants this to be the kind of book that is discussed in a book club and I would agree there are several interesting angles and talking points that most people can relate to because nearly everyone has been impacted in one way or another by one of the focal issues. Since it feels like there are actually 2 stories in this book, it didn't have quite enough page time for each of the main characters to feel as deeply connected to them as in some of her other books, but the writing will still reel the reader in regardless. I am impressed that Jewel E Ann still continues to surprise me and throw in unexpected twists so many books later and appreciate the thought provoking topics, too.
I was a little dirty on Price initially, thinking why was he there if not to just stir up trouble for Scottie. Then, I started to ‘get’ why and loved what he brought to the story.
This is a book about embracing the simple life, going with the flow and not taking yourself too seriously.
The banter between Scottie, Koen, Price and Koen’s grandfather of course was entertaining. I lost count of the times that I chuckled out loud.
What I loved:
- the freshness of the plot
- unpredictable twists
- the irreverent humour (Koens dog’s name for instance and all the terrible but funny innuendos that flowed when his dog came up in conversation)
- Koen’s confidence to tread the path Scottie needed to follow.
- the off page conversations
- the on page conversations
What I struggled with:
- Amelia’s stance
At the end of the story, I was left with a welcomed book-buzz and a longing to find my next book that will keep my buzz going!

You’ve done it again Jewel E Ann! Thanks for giving us a speculative ending so we can have our own conclusion. I choose his living to keep loving.
Everyone should have a person like Scottie to live a simple & in the moment life, who will keep us grounded. Price who shows us what determination means and how to reach your goals no matter how impossible it is & Everyone deserves an understanding husband like Koen.
So many feelings in this book and every single one will be close to your heart.
I Thought Of You is an extraordinary story of life & love between people you’ll remember long after you finish the book.
Jewel E. Ann thank you for my new favourite story, again!
It hurt to read thus story, yet I was moved beyond comprehension. Jewel E Ann always writes stories that are bravely thought provoking. Stories where the characters are so different to any others ever read about. Their beliefs and morals so complex, yet so enviable. The world is seen through different eyes when I was getting to know Scottie, Price and Koen. I adored everything about Scottie. She was the total opposite of the usual character, and the honest and all embracing way she journeyed through life was so simplistic in its honesty and beauty. Every day and experience was looked on as a way to learn and grow. Such positive energy, it made it impossible to put this story down. It lade me think about life and the various other ways you can look at it and approach out of the ordinary situations.
This story will wreck you. But in such a completely intoxicating way. It will profoundly affect you and have you experiencing every emotion at a significantly higher level. The content will spellbind you beyond words. It will change your reading experience for the better. I Thought of You is a powerful story that will embed itself in your eternal memories. It's a story you will never forget and will leave you breathless and desperate for another unique and bittersweet tale of friendship and love, endurance, tragedy, forgiveness, and everything in between. This story is literally everything. All of it. The whole lot of everything. 5 stars.
This is up there with Transcend as my top Jewel book, which is saying a lot, as I haven’t re-read Transcend / Epoch again because it was that emotional.
